Organization Overview

Visit Southwest Montana (SWMT) is one of Montana’s six official tourism regions. Funded through the state’s lodging facility use tax, SWMT promotes travel throughout nine counties: Beaverhead, Broadwater, Deer Lodge, Granite, Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Madison (excluding Big Sky), Powell, and Silver Bow.

The region is known for its rich history, welcoming communities, wide-open spaces, and uncrowded outdoor experiences. Visitors can explore ghost towns, mining heritage, museums, hot springs, sapphire mining, scenic waterways, the Continental Divide Trail, and historic sites associated with its territorial beginnings. Southwest Montana also serves as a natural connection between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.

Visit Southwest Montana works with communities, attractions, lodging properties, restaurants, chambers of commerce, and tourism businesses to increase visitation and strengthen the regional economy. Its marketing includes digital advertising, social media, public relations, travel guides, videos, itineraries, and the website SouthwestMT.com.

The organization also supports responsible recreation, encourages respect for public lands, wildlife, and local communities, and provides training and resources to help tourism businesses deliver exceptional visitor experiences. Its goal is to inspire travelers to slow down, stay longer, explore lesser-known places, and experience the authentic people, landscapes, and stories of Southwest Montana.
